Privacy Policy
Information we collect
We may collect:
- Account information and email address, if you are one of the invited contributors who posts Insights content. The App does not ask other users to create an account.
- Subscription / trial status
- Device type and operating system
- Crash reports and aggregate statistics provided to us by Apple or Google. The App does not include analytics or crash-reporting software of our own.
- Approximate or precise location (only with your permission)
- Notification preferences
- Local device storage needed to run the App (settings, pins, legal acceptance)
- If you turn on push alerts: the coordinates and time zone of your saved locations, a notification token, and a random device identifier (see Push alerts)
We do not sell personal information to third parties.
How we use information
- Provide local forecasts, radar, alerts, and related features
- Operate subscriptions, trials, and account features
- Improve performance, reliability, and user experience
- Send optional weather notifications you enable
- Secure the service and prevent abuse
Location data
Location is used to provide local weather, radar, alerts, and related features. You may revoke location access at any time in your device or browser settings. We do not require location to open the App; many features work with a saved place or map pin instead.
Push alerts
Push alerts are optional and off until you turn them on. Delivering a warning to the right phone has to happen on our servers, because a warning polygon must be compared against your locations even when the App is closed. When you enable push alerts we therefore store:
- The latitude, longitude and time zone of each saved location you enable alerts for
- A notification token issued by Apple or Google for your device
- A random identifier generated on your device, which is not your name, email or Apple ID
- Your notification settings, including hazard choices, sound and quiet hours
- Your subscription or trial status, so alerts are sent only while it is active
Coordinates are used to decide whether a warning polygon covers one of your locations, and the time zone is used to apply your quiet hours in your own local time. They are not used for advertising or profiling, and are not sold.
Push alerts use the locations you save, not continuous background tracking. The App does not follow your device's location in the background to send alerts. If you want alerts for where you are, you save that place as a location.
Turning push alerts off in Settings stops delivery and deletes the stored coordinates, notification token and settings for your device. We keep only the random identifier, the date it was first registered and your subscription status, which is what lets us recognise an existing subscriber if you turn alerts back on. Notification tokens are also discarded automatically once Apple or Google reports them as no longer valid, such as after the App is deleted.
Unless you sign in to post Insights content, none of this is linked to an account, an email address or your name.
Analytics
The App does not include third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Apple and Google may give us aggregate statistics and crash reports through their own developer tools, subject to the choices you make in your device settings. If we add an analytics provider later, we will name it here and update our App Store privacy disclosures first.
Data security & retention
We employ commercially reasonable safeguards. No electronic transmission or storage method is completely secure. We keep information only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for:
- Push alert data — the coordinates, time zone, notification token and notification settings for your device are deleted when you turn push alerts off (see Push alerts). Notification tokens are also discarded once Apple or Google reports them as no longer valid, such as after the App is deleted.
- The random device identifier, the date it was first registered and your subscription status — kept while the installation exists, which is what lets us recognise an existing subscriber.
- Contributor account information — kept while the account exists, and deleted on request.
- Operational server logs — rotated automatically and kept only briefly, for debugging, reliability and abuse prevention.
Children's privacy
The App is not directed toward children under the age of 13.
Third-party services
The App may interact with services including:
- Apple / Google (stores, billing, device services)
- RevenueCat, which manages subscription and trial status on our behalf and receives your purchase information and the random device identifier
- Cloudflare
- Amazon Web Services
- Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging, which deliver alerts
- Weather data providers (e.g. NWS / NOAA and related feeds)
Those providers maintain their own privacy policies.
Your choices
- Revoke location or notification permissions in system settings
- Manage or cancel subscriptions via Apple, Google, or web billing (when enabled)
- Turn push alerts off in Settings, which deletes the stored data described above
- Contributors may request account deletion at [email protected]
